MSO-Restored McLaren F1 To Be Displayed In The UK

McLaren Special Operations will show off a recently restored McLaren F1, chassis #63, at the Hampton Court Concours d’Elegance on September 6-8.

It took 18 months to bring #63 back to life properly. At first, the body and drivetrain were removed and the interior was re-trimmed in its original Semi Aniline leather, a one-off option for this car. Then, the cabin was finished in Woking Grey, a color reportedly inspired by the sky above the automaker’s old headquarters on Albert Drive.

The next step was to dress up the dashboard and perforated passenger seats in Woking Grey Alcantara, while the driver’s seat was re-trimmed in Woking Grey leather featuring a red perforated Alcantara center panel. Once that was all done, the exterior body panels were re-fitted and repainted in the original Magnesium Silver, which took almost 900 hours.

“Just 12 months ago we announced the MSO McLaren F1 Heritage programme with the unveiling of F1 25R, resplendent in Gulf Racing Colours. Following an extensive restoration, which was very much a labour of love for our team, it’s an honour to now display chassis 63 at the Hampton Court Concours d’Elegance. With the work the team has carried out, this car will continue to fulfil the original brief for the McLaren F1; to create the world’s finest road car,” said MSO exec Ansar Ali.

As for the 6.1-liter naturally-aspirated engine, it was completely rebuilt and dyno tested to make sure that it still produced 618 HP (627 PS). Furthermore, the dampers were sent back to Bilstein for refurbishment, while the driveshafts and hubs also ended up back with their original suppliers.

The entire restoration process took some 3,000 hours, including final road and track testing, so the legendary Macca is ready to roam the streets.
