Last month, Mercedes announced plans to introduce a new concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Now we’re getting our first glimpse at the upcoming model.
The company is staying tight-lipped on specifics, but confirmed it’s an EQ concept with an electric powertrain. Little else is known about the car, but the company has previously said the model “embodies the flexible, customer-oriented and sustainable vision of the Mercedes-Benz product and technology brand EQ.”
That’s not much to go on, but the teaser image reveals the concept will have slender LED headlights and a prominent Mercedes emblem which is illuminated. The model also appears to have a fully enclosed grille similar to the one used on the EQC.
While the images aren’t very revealing, Mercedes teased its profile on screens flanking the car. They suggest the concept will be a stylish four-door coupe with a rakish windscreen and a compact greenhouse.
Nothing is official as of yet, but the concept could preview the upcoming EQS. Spy photographers have caught the model on a handful of occasions and it’s a radical looking car that bears little resemblance to the rest of the Mercedes lineup.
As you can see, the EQS is a stylish five-door hatchback with coupe-like styling. Like the concept, it has a rakish windscreen, an upward sloping beltline and a dynamic roofline.
Little is known about the car at this point, but it’s designed to battle the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan. It will reportedly ride on the MEA platform and feature two electric motors which could give the model a combined output in excess of 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) in the rumored AMG variant. The EQS is expected to be launched in 2021 and could have a range in excess of 310 miles (500 kilometers).
