The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS is an extraordinary piece of kit, but despite its superior specs, its nowhere near as insane as the 997-generation GT2.
You see, whereas the new GT2 RS is all about posting the ultimate lap times, the older ‘Widowmaker’ was less about chasing lap records and more focused on providing the ultimate driving experience. Or scaring the hell out of you if you made an error. Make no mistake; this is an absolute beast, as many have found out to their dismay throughout the years, hence the nickname.
Currently, one of the roughly 200 997 911 GT2 models to make their way to the United States is up for sale from Bring A Trailer. With just one day left in the auction it had attracted a highest bid of $136,000.

Sitting behind the rear axle of the 997 GT2 is a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six delivering 523 HP and 505 lb-ft of torque. That is way down on the 690 HP of the current GT2 RS, but all of the older car’s power was transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission rather than an advanced dual-clutch PDK – plus, the 992, although in no way tame, is much more forgiving. This particular car includes a GIAC software tune with fuel and ignition maps and likely has a little more power than standard, which makes it even more terrifying exciting.
The listing states that the owner fitted a new flywheel, pressure plate, friction plate and throw-out bearing in August before putting the car up for sale. Making the the Widowmaker all the more desirable is the fact that it has just 2,500 miles (4,023 km) on the clock. It also sports Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and 19-inch wheels with 235/35 front and 325/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that were fitted in August.
