Volkswagen is bringing another high-performance model to the UK in the shape of the T-Roc R crossover.

Power comes from a turbocharged petrol four that’s good for 296 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. With the aid of a seven-speed DSG automatic and 4Motion all-wheel drive (both standard), it can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds and maxes out at 155 mph (250 km/h).

Despite its size, though, it’s still a performance vehicle, so the T-Roc R certainly isn’t cheap, as it starts at £38,450 ($47,789).

“With the arrival of the R, the T-Roc again demonstrates the impressive versatility of its packaging, with the ability to be a stylish and practical family SUV, a fun-focused Cabriolet or, now, a driver-focussed R sports car,” stated T-Roc product manager at VW UK, Claire Haynes.

“With nimble handling, large car space and performance car pace, the T-Roc R really is the consummate all-rounder, and represents the best of the past, present and future of Volkswagen R,” she added.

As far as equipment is concerned, UK buyers get 19-inch Pretoria alloy wheels as standard, while the automaker’s Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive damper system is available for an extra £695 ($864). Opting for DCC means having “greater flexibility through a choice of multiple driving modes,” according to V-Dub.

The T-Roc R is offered with a black roof, A-pillar and mirror housings, plus a choice of eight bodywork colors: Energetic Orange, Turmeric Yellow, White Silver, Indium Grey, Deep Black, Pure White, Flash Red and the R-exclusive Lapiz Blue.
