Whenever Porsche releases a new GT-badged model, you know it is going to be good and as Matt Farah recently discovered, the 991.2 GT3 RS is exactly that.
Powering the car is Porsche’s truly intoxicating 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine mated to a quick-shifting PDK transmission. As anyone who has been in a GT3 or GT3 RS will tell you, it is hard to beat the mechanical symphony produced by this motorsport-derived engine. You can keep your Lamborghini and Ferrari V12s; we’ll have a highly-strung flat-six from Porsche thank you very much.

The 911 GT3 RS is Weissach’s most track-focused 911 alongside the GT2 RS, and that means its ride can beat you up a little bit if you’re driving in the city or roads that aren’t crisp and smooth. It would take a brave person to daily drive a GT3 RS, and those looking to buy a fast 911 that can be driven day in, day out, would be better off with a Carrera T or the GT3 Touring, Farah says – or a Turbo, we might add.
An all-new 911, code-named 992, has already been launched, and we know that an new GT3 is just around the corner, which means an RS is almost sure to follow. Since the previous car, which is driven here, delivers 512 HP, the next model will inevitably have a little more grunt. How much? Well, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a figure closer to the 540 or 550 HP mark. It’s even possible the car could feature a larger 4.2-liter engine, just like the latest mid-engined 911 RSR racer, though for the moment, that’s mere speculation.
