MG is getting ready to welcome a newcomer into their UK family, the XS compact SUV.

Set to go on sale later this fall in Europe’s largest right-hand drive market, the vehicle is described as having a new face, with an enlarged grille, inspired by the “brand’s heritage” and made “in a contemporary way”.

The SAIC-owned brand might be trying to keep a mystery cloud over the new XS, but we already know that this is basically a renamed version of the Chinese ZS, which was shown in Guangzhou last November.

Specifications have yet to be announced, but the automaker says that its trim levels are “guaranteed to impress”, and that it will be available with a choice of two petrol engine derivatives, married to either a manual or an automatic transmission.

The new MG XS will join the MG3 and MG GS in the United Kingdom, and it will be followed by a fourth member, next year – the MG6, which already celebrated its Chinese debut last week. Power comes from a 1.5-liter unit that makes 170hp, pushed to the wheels through a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
