JLR appears to be working on a technology that will be able to detect weather conditions and automatically prepare the vehicle accordingly.
Recently, the automaker filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization, which will combine local weather information gathered through a GPS connection, with current air temperature, pressure, humidity and light readings to provide an accurate picture of impending conditions.
With this information at hand, the vehicle could automatically prepare the appropriate drivetrain settings, traction control and interior temperature for the climate that lies ahead.
While it’s not exactly difficult for drivers to adjust various vehicle settings if weather changes, Jaguar Land Rover’s technology would make driving that little bit easier.
Additionally, it could prove very beneficial for fully-autonomous vehicles which won’t have human drivers. Instead, they will rely on such information like this in order to ensure a comfortable and safe ride.
