The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a rather fascinating car not just because it’s surprisingly cheap but because it is the first ‘Vette to be mid-engined.

Building a mid-engined Corvette meant Chevrolet was unable to carry parts from the outgoing C7 model through to the C8 and had to start from scratch. This video details a cutaway car that Chevrolet has built to show off the sports car’s internals to customers and offers a very intriguing look as to what is going on under the skin.

At the front, the C8 Corvette features a pair of heat exchangers that are funneled through to the engine bay. What’s particularly interesting about this area of the car is that there is a fairly substantial tunnel running from the front through to the rear and it seems inevitable that this is where the battery pack will be housed for the long-rumored, all-wheel drive hybrid variant.

The 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 is also rather impressive and incorporates truly beautiful blacked-out headers. Other interesting takeaways from the video include the thick bracing made from aluminum. According to the YouTuber who filmed this video, Chevrolet did experiment with carbon fiber braces during testing of the new Corvette.

On October 2, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette family will grow with the unveiling of the Convertible model. Details about the droptop are limited at the moment but it will be largely identical to the hardtop but just a touch heavier.
