The BMW M2 CS has yet to even be unveiled and already Sport Auto have had the opportunity to drive it at Germany’s Hockenheim Formula 1 circuit.
With Uwe Sener behind the wheel, the M2 CS set a best lap time of 1:55.80. Where does that rate in terms of other production cars to have lapped the circuit? Quite well, actually.
For starters, it’s just 0.2 seconds behind the F90-generation M5 Competition and only 0.4 seconds behind the Mercedes-AMG GT S. The M2 CS is also faster than the BMW M850i, Porsche Cayman GT4, A90 Toyota Supra, Audi TT RS Coupe, and 2.1 seconds faster than the current M2 Competition.

Powering the M2 CS will be the automaker’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter S55 inline-six first used by the M3 and M4 and, then, the M2 Competition. Power is expected to sit at 444 HP, a healthy 39 HP more than the Competition. Reports assert that the CS will be a touch lighter thanks to the use of carbon fiber on the roof, front splitter, hood, rear spoiler, wing mirrors and rear diffuser.
Customers will be able to purchase the M2 CS with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The example driven by Sport Auto had the dual-clutch ‘box, which we suspect might just prove to be the most popular choice.
Expect to see the BMW M2 CS unveiled at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
