The international media launch of the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe took place recently in Faro, Portugal, giving the automaker a good excuse to drop a massive photo gallery of the new model.

The Gran Coupe is the last body style to join the all-new 8 Series lineup, following the two-door Coupe and Cabriolet. It’s arguably the best looking 8 Series model, a fact made quite obvious by BMW’s gallery of an 840i Gran Coupe in Mineral White paintwork.

The 840i moniker means there’s a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six gasoline engine under the long hood making 335 hp (340 PS) at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) at 1,600 – 4,500 rpm. The “entry-level” BMW 840i Gran Coupe is the only model available at launch with rear-wheel drive, as all the other variants feature xDrive as standard.

Mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the engine enables plentiful performance: the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 5.2 seconds (4.9 seconds with the optional xDrive system) and the top speed is electronically limited at 155 mph (250 km/h).

Let’s not forget that this is a massive car that measures 5,082 millimeters (200 inches) in length and, in this configuration, weighs 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs) unladen. Those who want more performance can always go for the 523 hp (530 PS) M850i xDrive Gran Coupe or wait for the upcoming M8 Gran Coupe with up to 616 hp (625 PS) in Competition guise.
