Hollywood A-lister Michael Fassbender is so much into driving that he actually wanted to test his skills against some of the best racers in the world at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
An upcoming YouTube series dubbed ‘Road to Le Mans’ will show the X-Men star as he prepares to tackle this ultimate challenge behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six and a massive six-foot wide rear wing. The series will kick off October 11 and will feature weekly episodes with currently unknown runtimes.
This isn’t the first time this two-time Academy Award nominee has taken the reigns of a real-life race car. Only last year, Fassbender secured a first-place finish in the first of six races at the Daytona Ferrari Challenge and his weapon of choice for that particular competition was a Ferrari 488 Challenge powered by a 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 with 670 HP.

At the time, Fassbender was quoted by the Hollywood Reporter as saying that “it’s a lot more fun prepping for this [racing] than learning lines at home,” the downside being that “if you miss an apex or mess up a corner, you don’t get a ‘take two’.”
He went on to add that “when it comes to the first practice day, your brain and body have to assimilate to these high speeds. You get into the car and think, ‘Oh, God, I can’t do this,’ but it’s incredible how the body and mind adapt — it’s just about focusing and trying to get in a rhythm. Racing is something that really does bring that level of forced meditation — it’s very rare in life.”
The Irish-German movie star has officially joined other actors turned racing drivers such as Steve McQueen, James Garner, Paul Newman and, of course, Patrick Dempsey.
