The fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL, codenamed R129, was one of the most successful and iconic models in the nameplate’s history.
The German automaker built more than 213,000 units between 1989 and 2001, making it one of the best-selling SL generations. That’s not surprising since there was a lot to love about this luxury roadster: the perfect proportions, the powerful and refined engines, as well as the bulletproof build quality and reliability.
All these qualities make it a sought-after young classic so if you’re looking for a rare and beautifully maintained example you should know Mercedes-Benz has one for sale at its museum in Stuttgart.

Offered via the brand’s All Time Stars program, this SL 320 Mille Miglia Edition 2000 was built in 2000 and has covered 55,700 kilometers (34,610 miles) from new. It had five owners in total, yet appears to be in very good condition.
According to the listing, it’s a very rare model too since only 12 units of this special edition were manufactured. Used as a support vehicle for the legendary Mille Miglia classic car road race in Italy, the roadster mixes a brilliant silver metallic exterior with a contrasting black fabric power-folding roof and black nappa leather interior, with a silver hardtop also included.
Special features include red and black checkered flag emblems on the front fenders, red Mille Miglia emblem on the boot lid, illuminated tread plates with “Mille Miglia Edition 2000” inscription, stainless steel instrument panel background and transmission lever trim, as well as a numbered plaque on the center console attesting to the vehicle’s rare status.
This particular car is loaded with features such as power front seats with memory, heating and orthopedic backrests, power-adjustable steering column, power-folding and adjustable side mirrors with memory, automatic air conditioning, xenon headlights with wiper/washer, a Radio 30 APS with CD changer, telephone console, and more.
Since it was made in 2000, it features the second facelift that was introduced in 1998 and therefore packs a 3.2-liter V6 instead of a straight-six, making 224 PS (221 HP) and driving the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. That’s enough muscle for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 238 km/h (148 mph).
It also comes with a complete service record, full tool kit, and 12-month warranty. Just make sure you have €66,890 ($73,170) to close the deal – and if that sounds too expensive for an SL that’s almost 20 years old, keep in mind that it is much rarer than the SL 73 AMG, of which only 40-50 were made.
