Toyota has announced that it will extend its hybrid battery warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles (241,401 km) up from the previous eight-year or 100,000 mile (160,934 km) warranty.
All 2020 hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and full cell electric vehicles will receive the new warranty. That means the latest Toyota Prius, Prius Prime, Corolla Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and the current Toyota Mirai fuel-cell vehicle.
Other parts that make up a hybrid powertrain, such as the electric motors, power electronics controls, inverter, and other parts will have an eight-year/100,000 mile warranty.

“Toyota introduced the first hybrid vehicle in the world more than 20 years ago, but people still have hesitations about owning a hybrid vehicle,” said Toyota Vehicle Marketing & Communications general manager Heather Updegraff. “Our goal is to minimize that concern and this new warranty extension for the hybrid battery is just another way we are leading the industry and putting our customers first.”
Toyota remains the market leader for hybrid-powered vehicles and last year in the United States, its vehicles accounted for 44 per cent of all hybrid vehicle sales. Evidently, some people are still trepidatious about buying such a vehicle and Toyota will hope to convince those on-the-fence buyers that a hybrid vehicle is the way to go with this new 10-year warranty.
In other news, Toyota recently previewed its second-generation Mirai in the lead-up to the Tokyo Motor Show with the unveiling of a sleek and attractive concept.
