Tesla is encouraging owners across California to fully charge up their cars as Pacific General & Electric cuts power to much of Northern California to prevent wildfires.
While owners of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles are rushing to fill up before the power outages, Tesla owners are also running to ensure their cars are fully charged. Fortunately, Tesla was on top of things and owners in the area recently started to receive messages on their infotainment screens encouraging them to fully charge their cars.

“A utility company in your area announced they may turn off power in some areas of Northern California beginning October 9 as part of public safety power shutoffs, which may affect power to charging options,” the message reads, according to Electrek. “We recommend charging your Tesla to 100% today to ensure your drive remains uninterrupted. As always, your touchscreen will display live statuses of Superchargers in your area – simply tap on a desired Supercharger station to confirm its availability.”
This isn’t the only thing Tesla is doing to ensuring its owners can still get around when power is switched off.
A Twitter user has confirmed that Tesla’s has enabled the ‘Storm Watch’ feature on its Powerwall that automatically charges the Powerwall to maximum capacity to provide backup power. Storm Watch mode remains enabled until the weather event ends. The feature was also enabled back in June due to wildfires in the state.
Oh snap, PowerWall 🌩Storm Watch🌩 just got activated for these PG&E blackouts.
