Hyundai has wasted no time in developing the successor of the Tucson, as only four years after production of the third-generation started, we’ve already seen the new one testing.

The Korean automaker said the fourth-gen compact crossover will be a radical departure from its predecessor in terms of styling. Their statement is backed up by what we’ve seen in spy shots, which show some drastic visual changes.

Now, thing is, automakers usually start with heavy camo on their prototypes, slowly peeling off layers as time goes by, thus showing off more and more of the final product. Having already taken a digital stab on the 2021 Tucson with earlier testers, Kolesa has looked into the latest spy shots that (mainly) reveal more details of the rear end and refined their renders of the Hyundai SUV. Aside from the more accurate rear with the connected taillights and differentiated hatch, the renders also take into consideration the profile window line and the more pronounced front fenders that were better exposed in the more recent prototypes.

Expected to launch next year as a 2021MY, the fourth generation Tucson is believed to get the new 2.5-liter Theta3 engine in North America, in two versions: naturally aspirated and turbocharged, paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Europeans, on the other hand, should get the updated 1.6 GDI and 1.6 T-GDI power units, as well as a possible diesel and the hybrid powertrain found in the new Sonata. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but the all-wheel drive system will be offered in higher grades.
