We’re only a day away from VW unveiling its all-new Golf in Wolfsburg, Germany, an event that will stream online so that global fans and potential buyers can see what this upcoming 8th iteration of the popular compact hatchback is all about.

Now, while its styling is by no means a complete mystery, an anonymous tipster found this image, which appears to be the first official picture of the 2020 Golf, online and sent it over to us.

It depicts the front fascia and matches what we saw in a previous leak from last week – chrome strip for the grille, horizontal bars in the lower grille area, plus a headlight design that’s been making the rounds online for quite a while.

The most interesting thing here though is the headlight graphics, or Daytime Running Light signature, if you will. Each unit features a horizontal strip on top, serving as a visual continuation of the chrome strip found on the grille. Then there’s the U-shape pattern underneath, that may or may not dim down once the low/high beam is activated.

The top light strip actually reminds us a little bit of the E60 BMW 5-Series’ eyebrow-style headlight graphic, the one positioned above the Angel Eyes.

While it may not end up as the most aggressive-looking model in its segment, the all-new Golf does appear to feature a very clean look, in line with the German automaker’s new and quite modern designs.

As for what it will look like on the inside, we know that it features a two-layer dashboard with very few physical buttons. The screens meanwhile will be slightly oriented towards the driver – yet sit a bit offset, unlike the continuous dual-screen setup you get in a Mercedes A-Class, for example.
