Lamborghini says the Aventador SVJ has a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h) which, coincidentally, is the same as the ‘regular’ Aventador S. Can the Italian supercar hit that top speed in 2.3 miles (3.7 km)? To find out, the owner of a grey example headed out to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida for a high-speed run.
Off the line, the Aventador SVJ is an absolute animal and rips through the gears with very little fuss despite the bumpy runway. It charges past 186 mph (300 km/h) without breaking a sweat before breezing to beyond 200 mph (320 km/h). It ultimately tops out at 210 mph (338 km/h) before the driver lets off the throttle and starts to brake.

While the hardcore Aventador didn’t reach its claimed top speed, we’ve got no doubt that it could have with a slightly longer runway. In fact, it sounds as if the car only changed into seventh gear at 206 mph (331 km/h).
What makes the Aventador SVJ special isn’t its ferocious speed, however. What really makes it desirable is the fact that it features a screaming, 779 HP 6.5-liter V12 engine that’s certainly one of the best-sounding powertrains in the world.
The SVJ isn’t just a straight-line warrior as in 2018, though, as it set a new production car lap record at the Nurburgring, sprinting around the German circuit in a mere 6:44.97.
However, Lamborghini is readying a new, Aventador-based supercar that will be even more powerful and faster than the SVJ. It will be limited to track use only and its V12 will pump out 830 HP.
