The Mercedes-AMG A45 S can get from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in almost the same time you need to say its full name.

It’s the fastest and the most powerful of hot hatches , with its 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out a stunning 421 PS (415 hp / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

Ford’s Mustang EcoBoost has 100 hp less and cannot dream of hitting the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark in 3.9 seconds. In fact, the A45 S has turned out to be quicker at the Hockenheim GP track than the V8-powered Mustang GT, as well as the old CLK 63 Black Series and BMW M3 E90, and almost as fast as the old Audi R8 V8.

Hitting the official 270 km/h (168 mph) top speed is a walk in the park, too, as proved by the following video, which sees the A45 S going flat out on a no-speed-limit section of a German Autobahn. The result was recorded on a third party device, and by the time the driver lifted the right foot off the throttle, the digital needle was sitting at 278 km/h (173 mph).

You may want to double check those finances if the A45 S is on your shopping list, because it’s one expensive car. In Germany, it starts at €66,283 ($73,997), while in the UK, you will have to spend a minimum of £50,570 ($65,402).
