Since the all-new 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback is nothing more than a regular Q3 with a “sportier back”, you probably don’t even need a review in order to figure out that the sloped roof version is the less practical crossover between the two.

But just how cramped is the Q3 Sportback if you’re a moderately tall individual sitting in the backseat? Well, as long as you’re not taller than 5’11 (180 cm), you should be OK, otherwise, your head is going to scrape the headliner.

Surprisingly enough though, the trunk volume is identical between the two variants (530 liters / 18.7 cu.ft), as long as you don’t fold down the backseat.

The Sportback also features the same interior design, onboard tech and driving characteristics of the regular Q3. However, rear visibility can be an issue. As for performance, this 45 TFSI version proved quite strong according to Carwow. It produces 227 HP (230 PS) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, getting you from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.5 seconds. Top speed is 233 km/h (144 mph).

In the end, the reviewer argued that buyers should at most consider getting the Q3 Sportback, without shortlisting it – simply because the regular Q3 is more practical and cheaper to purchase.

Still, if you fancy something that looks a little more sporty, the Q3 Sportback, along with the BMW X2, are definitely worth a look. Besides, some if not most people still tend to buy the cars they want, rather than the cars they need.
