Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, announced his plans to open a new Research & Development center in the UK, following a deal with HR Owen, their official dealer in the country.
Rimac said to Autocar that he picked UK because he “likes working with Brits” and sees the country as home to Europe’s best engineers. This is one of the few good news lately for the UK automotive industry, which has been under continuous stress, mostly due to Brexit and foreign-owned automakers’ response to a negative outcome.
Rimac didn’t go into further details about the company’s new R&D center, focusing instead on getting the C_Two electric hypercar ready for production. The final car will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next March.

Production of the Rimac C_Two is expected to begin at the end of 2020, with just 150 examples planned. Its electric powertrain consists of four electric motors producing a combined 1,888hp (1,914PS) and 1696lb-ft (2,300Nm).
Juice is provided by a 120 kWh battery pack, making the C_Two capable of travelling around 650 km (404 miles) on a single charge. But the most impressive figures, naturally, concern its performance: 0-60mph (0-96 km/h) in 1.85 seconds, 0-100mph (160km/h) in 4.3 and a top speed of 258mph (412km/h).
Rimac, which is 15.5 percent owned by Porsche and 15 percent by Hyundai, will build the C_Two alongside the Pininfarina Battista, which uses the same carbon-fiber tub and electric powertrain.
Finally, the production version of the Rimac C_Two is also going to adopt a different name from the concept. “I can’t tell you what it’s called”, said Rimac. Why is that? “We haven’t decided yet.”
