Peugeot has announced that it will team up with Rebellion Racing for the company’s FIA WEC ‘Hypercar’ Programme in 2022 and shared an image of what the race car may look like.
The announcement was made by Peugeot chief executive Jean-Philippe Imparato on Twitter.
“Delighted to announce our partnership with @RebellionRacing for our participation with a #hybrid electrified hypercar in the @FIAWEC from 2022. A shared passion for design and performance – the perfect match! Maybe the car will look like this?” he wrote.
Endurance Racing Is About To Get Very Exciting: Peugeot Returns To Le Mans With A New Hybrid Hypercar
As for the vehicle showcased by Peugeot’s chief executive, it certainly looks fitting of endurance racing but it remains to be seen if this is indeed the vehicle Peugeot and Rebellion will race although we’re doubtful that it will be. After all, the car manufacturer still has more than two years to develop and test its new race car and it’s virtually impossible that the car’s design has already been set in stone. Nonetheless, the rendering does indicate that Peugeot won’t hold back with the design of its eventual hypercar.

Peugeot’s decision to return to the top-tier of endurance racing came as a bit of a shock when the announcement was made in mid-November.
“I am very excited at the prospect of channeling the skills and passion of my team into this project,” PSA Motorsport director Jean-Marc Finot said at the time. “It is a new challenge and I know our experts will rise to it with another demonstration of their will to win with teams financed by the Group’s brands, fuelled by their long experience of topflight FIA championships and hunger for success.”
Peugeot withdrew from endurance racing in 2011 having most recently claimed an outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009 with the 908 HDi FAP LMP1.
