Jaguar has released a range-boosting software upgrade for owners of the I-Pace all-electric crossover.
Using technical knowledge gained from the I-Pace eTrophy race series, Jaguar has managed to unlock up to 20 km (12.4 miles) of additional real-world range on a full charge from the 90-kWh lithium-ion battery. Thanks to optimized battery, thermal and AWD systems management, engineers managed to enhance the efficiency of the all-electric powertrain.
The complimentary software update can be activated at Jaguar dealerships and will also enable enhanced Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) functionality. Upon receiving the latest software, more electronic modules will be able to receive remote updates, therefore enhancing the customer experience.

The additional driving range represents around eight percent of the Jaguar I-Pace’s 292-mile (470-km) WLTP rating. The software upgrade doesn’t change the official certified range figure, though.
Additional changes derived from the eTrophy race series include greater efficiency when driving in Eco mode thanks to changes to the torque distribution and refinements to thermal management control. Furthermore, the updates allow the battery to run to a lower state of charge than before, without affecting drivability, durability or performance.
“The new software updates optimize the powertrain control systems to improve efficiency and allow I-Pace drivers to travel even further on a single charge without any hardware changes – it really is a case of the vehicle getting better with age,” said Stephen Boulter, I-Pace Vehicle Engineering Manager.
Besides the lessons learned from the eTrophy series, Jaguar has also made some changes derived from real-world data analysis. Those include increased energy recovery from the vehicle’s brakes at lower driving speeds and a more precise predictive range calculation algorithm.
