Last week, we shared a short video of Hennessey’s Jeep Gladiator Maximus 1000 being put through its paces at the company’s facility. Now, it’s time to see what this insane pickup truck can do when strapped on a dyno.
As the name of the model implies, it pumps out no less than 1,000 HP at the crank. Such a monumental figure is achieved thanks to a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine that has been extensively modified, while torque is said to sit at 933 lb-ft (1264 Nm).
Hail Maximus: Hennessey’s 1,000HP Jeep Gladiator Hellcat Is Here To Conquer It All
When putting all of this power to the ground on the rear-wheel dyno, the truck delivered 692 HP at 6,200 rpm and almost 629 lb-ft (852 Nm) of torque. Due to the transmission, enlarged wheels and tires, Dana 60 diffs with 4.88 gears, as well as new axles and driveshafts, the Texas tuner estimates a driveline loss of approximately 30 per cent, hence why the figures for wheel horsepower are well down on those measured at the crank.
What’s really notable is how aggressively the pickup truck flexes when its throttle is pinned. It looks like a caged gorilla just waiting to be let loose but held back by a series of straps. Unleashed on the street, we’ve got no doubt that this Gladiator could scare off a few sports cars while still being capable of conquering some extreme off-road tracks.
