The average price of raising a child is nearly $14,000 annually, but one parent in China got a rather unexpected bill.
According to 7News, a couple brought their three year old daughter with them to an Audi dealership last month. They apparently weren’t paying much attention to her as she managed to grab a rock and then “draw pictures” on ten different vehicles by scratching their paint jobs.
The report doesn’t give a detailed list of which vehicles were damaged, but a Q3 and Q8 were among the victims. The latter is pretty expensive as the base model starts at $68,200 in the United States.

Needless to say, the dealership was infuriated and sued the father. While the scratches were relatively minor, the dealership said the vehicles couldn’t be sold as new once they were repainted. If they were to do this, they could be sued for false advertising and forced to pay buyers three times the purchase price.
As a result, the repainted cars would have to sold as used and this would significantly reduce their value. Of course, the dealership would also have to pay for repainting the vehicles in the first place.
To cover the expenses and lost value, the dealership wanted the father to pay them at least ¥200,000 ($28,643 / £21,493 / €25,666). He reportedly rejected that figure and the two sides eventually settled on ¥70,000 ($10,025 / £7,523 / €8,998).
