After three years of battling the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra and Peugeot 308, the fourth generation Renault Megane is in for an update.

The French compact car was spied testing in Sweden’s sub-zero temperatures in Sport Tourer guise, with camouflage in the places that will be updated.

Review: Looking For A Stylish Compact Estate? Try The Renault Megane Sport Tourer

Like practically all mid-cycle refreshes, the estate will bring new front and rear ends, which will probably comprise of redesigned bumpers and lighting units. As for the interior, it will probably feature a new infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, which will bring it up to speed in the hotly contested C-segment.

The biggest change over the outgoing iteration, though, will be the addition of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The model was already scooped earlier this year, in hatchback form, with a charging port on the left front fender. Said prototype also sported fender flares, which might suggest wider tracks.

Not much is known about the plug-in hybrid Megane, except that the powertrain was developed in-house and that it should have a zero-emission range of roughly 30 miles (48 km), but it will be part of Renault’s electrified strategy.

The facelifted Megane is thought to premiere at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show next March, although an earlier online unveiling is possible too.
