While it’s true that McLaren have come a long way since the days of the MP4-12C, the latter still remains a very desirable second hand buy, especially if you’re in the market for something really fast with a rather unassuming appearance.
In this case however we’re dealing with a heavily modified MP4-12C, getting auctioned off through Bring a Trailer. Among other things, it is fitted with a Hyper800R performance package, which delivers between 880 and 910 HP – but more on that later.
The exterior is finished in Volcano Red, featuring a custom RHZ High Sport carbon fiber front bumper. The optional forged alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber and measure 19-inches at the front and 20-inches at the rear.

Then there’s the cabin, which is dripping with Carbon Black leather upholstery, with Alcantara on the seat inserts, door panels, dashboard and headliner. The steering wheel features carbon fiber trim as well, while the red contrast stitching livens things up a bit overall.
It’s worth noting that the car’s digital odometer shows just under 18,000 miles (29,000 km) on the 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine, which now features Hypercar Development’s Hyper800R package: ECU update, upgraded intercooler piping, methanol injection, Inconel catalytic converters, air intake mods and more.
According to the tuner, this package will boost the power output to north of 750-775 WHP, or 880-910 HP on VP Racing Fuels (MS-109) – and it’s been implied that such an MP4-12C model could actually beat a stock 720S in a straight line.
At the time of writing, the highest bid stood at $80,000, though with four days still left in the auction, we expect it to rise. It probably won’t get anywhere near the 720S’ $299,000 starting MSRP, though, so we guess that makes it worth checking out if you’re out for an ultra fast supercar.
