We were kind of surprised a couple of weeks ago to find out that the Mercedes-Benz EQA won’t be a hatchback, but rather a crossover.

Come to think of it, it makes sense, as the EQC is a high-riding vehicle related to the GLC and the upcoming EQB has the same DNA as the GLB. Thus, it makes sense for the EQA to be a zero-emission version of the second generation GLA.

So, we know that they’re already testing it, with our spy photographers capturing it on camera in snowy Scandinavia, but how does it look beneath the camo? Kleber Silva believes he knows the answer to this question, as his renderings portray it with EQC-like grille and headlights, complete with blue inserts.

The rear end copies that of the premium compact model as well, with slim taillamps joined together by a light strip and a similar diffuser design. The bumpers, on the other hand, pretty much carry over from the new GLA, with only minor updates.

The mystery cloud continues to hover over the EQA, as we still do not know anything about the powertrain. It will probably use an electric motor to drive the front wheels, but since its more expensive sibling, the EQB, is believed to gain a dual-motor derivative, it too could benefit from the electric all-wheel drive system in the near future or in higher-end versions. Production of the EQA should commence next year, at the Hambach facility in France, shortly after the official unveiling.
