Nissan said that it will continue legal action against its former CEO and Chairman Carlos Ghosn for the harm that his alleged misconduct caused to the company, the automaker said in a short statement.
“Ghosn’s flight will not affect Nissan’s basic policy of holding him responsible for the serious misconduct uncovered by the internal investigation,” the Japanese car maker said.

Carlos Ghosn has fled Japan with a private jet and is currently in Lebanon, where he’s expected to hold a press conference to declare his innocence as he doesn’t believe he would get a fair trial and was “tired of being an industrial political hostage”.
Nissan added that it finds “extremely regrettable” the fact that Ghosn violated his bail conditions and repeated that they have discovered numerous acts of misconduct by its former CEO through an internal investigation.
“The internal investigation found incontrovertible evidence of various acts of misconduct by Ghosn, including misstatement of his compensation and misappropriation of the company’s assets for his personal benefit. The consequences of Ghosn’s misconduct have been significant,” Nissan said.
In addition, Bloomberg reports that Japanese prosecutors have obtained an arrest warrant for Carole Ghosn, the wife of Carlos Ghosn, which means she could be arrested if she returns to Japan. Carole is currently in Lebanon with her husband.
Ghosn was forbidden from seeing his wife while he was on bail in Japan, as local authorities believed she was helping him cover up his alleged crimes. The former Nissan CEO said that his wife and other family members played no role in his escape from Japan, saying that “I alone arranged for my departure.”
