Only 5 original KITTs made for the ‘80s television series ‘Knight Rider’ have withstood filming, out of 20 in total, and whenever one of them pops up for sale, it comes at a hefty price.
However, if you’re a fan of the series that starred David Hasselhoff and are in dire need of a KITT of your own, then you could purchase a nicely-made replica, like this one, which was owned by George Barris. Advertised by Hemmings and listed for $55,000, it was bought by the late car customizer in 1996 and is the first of its kind to be offered directly from his collection since his passing in 2015.

The 1982 Pontiac Firebird has 5,000 miles (8,050 km) on the odo and stays true to the real movie car with the right aesthetics that include body conversions, black paint, tinted windows and 15-inch wheels, shod in 215/60 tires. Inside, the Barris-built replica has an electronic instrument panel, TV mounted in the dashboard, specific steering wheel and lots of buttons – and we mean lots. The rest of the cockpit appears to be in very good condition, including the tan leather used on the seats and doors.
It was recently serviced, getting new oil, filters and brakes, with the 5.0-liter (308) V8 paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, ready to be fired up – though, with a mere 145 horsepower, don’t expect any driving thrills. The car rocks ‘Barris Kustom’ badges on the outside and is accompanied by the paperwork that documents its ties to George Barris.
