The Grand Tour host Richard Hammond had no trouble of praising the Top Gear trio of presenters in a recent interview.
Radio Times asked Hammond for his opinion on Chris Harris, Freddy Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness hosting the current format of Top Gear and he was complimented the team for their “good chemistry”.
“I didn’t get to see it because I was travelling the whole time the series was on. I gather it was well received and they’re getting into their stride, which is fantastic news. It sounds like they have a good chemistry. Ours took 20 years to get,” Hammond said.
Hammond’s comments about the current Top Gear trio of presenters follow those of Jame May’s, who said “It took them a while to work out how to do it. But I think they’re doing a fairly good job now. It’s almost as good as ours.” May also added that he doesn’t “see why it’s a problem to have two big car shows”.
Unlike his two co-presenters on Amazon’s The Grand Tour, Jeremy Clarkson hasn’t expressed an opinion on the show he once referred to as his baby. In fact, Clarkson said in an old interview that he could not bring himself to watch Top Gear under another presenting team.
“It would be like going to visit your baby after it’s been adopted by someone else, and pressing your face up at the window,” he then said.
The fourth season of Amazon’s The Grand Tour this year will contain only special episodes, putting Clarkson, Hammond and May in epic adventures across the world. The first special episode of the season aired on December 13, with the three presenters travelling from Cambodia to Vietnam on three boats.
Top Gear’s 28th season kicked off with the Nepal special episode on December 29.
