A pair of General Motors employees were arrested last week for allegedly racing a pair of 2020 Corvette Stingrays through the streets of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Automobile Magazine reports that GM employees Alexander Thim and Mark Derkatz were arrested on the evening of January 8 on Lovers Lane in Bowling Green for exceeding the 45 mph (72 km/h) speed limit by more than 26 mph (41 km/h). In Kentucky, exceeding the speed limit by 26 mph is enough to trigger a court hearing and possible driving suspension. The duo were also stopped for reckless driving and racing motor vehicles on a public road.
It is reported that 27-year-old Thim was caught driving at 120 mph (193 km/h) while 30-year-old Derkatz was snapped at 100 mph (160 km/h). There was a third Corvette driving with the pair but it apparently wasn’t involved in the racing.

After the two men were arrested, the Corvettes were towed away to a nearby tow lot where they were collected the next day likely by representatives from the automaker.
“We are aware of an incident involving our test vehicles and are currently investigating,” GM said in a statement. “Safety remains our overriding priority at General Motors. We have no further comment at this time.”
Derkatz is employed as an electrical engineer at the company while Thim is a computer-aided engineering engineer working on induction and exhaust systems.
The duo were lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and released on a $1,000 bond.
