With all the recent talk about the Corvette potentially being spun-off into its own brand, designer TheSketchMonkey has decided to imagine how a C8-based Corvette SUV could look. This isn’t a blank paper effort, mind you, but a quick digital conversion of the coupe into a five-door crossover.

It wasn’t long after the new Corvette was presented to the world in mid-2019 that rumors surfaced suggesting General Motors will launch a dedicated Corvette brand to build a sedan and a crossover/SUV from 2023.

In creating this Corvette SUV, the designer started off by significantly raising the ride height of the sports car before making some alterations to the front end and side skirts to be slightly more fitting of an off-roader. Next, the transformation really began in earnest with the roofline stretched back and the side air intakes removed to make way for a set of additional doors for the second-row.

Of course, the C8 Corvette is mid-engined and if it were to spawn an SUV, that vehicle would obviously switch to a more traditional front-engined layout.

The finished creation is quite intriguing (well, for what it is) and does have the striking looks of a potential rival to the Lamborghini Urus. However, we remain doubtful that a Corvette SUV will hit the market, at least not anytime soon.

In December, GM chief executive Mary Barra commented on speculation of the Corvette name being spun-off into its own brand, appearing unconvinced it’s a good idea.

“I think you have to be really careful because you have to understand what makes the brand the brand,” she said. “So I’m not going to say never, but I think if General Motors were to ever do anything, we would assess it very, very carefully. Corvette means something so special to so many people.”
