Those who were among the first to order the latest-generation Ford GT may not be all that pleased with the continued extension of the car’s production run and last year’s launch of the limited-run GT Mk. II edition. To us mere mortals, however, the arrival of the Mk. II marks an exciting new chapter in the history of the GT.
Unveiled at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in Britain, the car is essentially an iteration of the Le Mans-winning GT GTE race car that can actually be purchased by private individuals. It features a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine that’s been fettled to churn out 700 hp and is bathed in distinctive bodywork.

A pair of videos recently shared on Instagram showcase what the GT Mk. II is really all about during a recent shakedown at the Thermal Raceway in California. The customer-owned example in question wears a distinctive Gulf-inspired livery with the number 15 on the doors and hood. It is owned by Google executive Benjamin Sloss who’s no stranger to potent performance cars with the likes of a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta and a Ferrari FXX K already in his collection.
These clips reveal that the GT Mk. II sounds absolutely demonic and is much louder than the ‘regular’ GT. As the car is not street legal, Ford obviously didn’t have to ensure it complies with any noise regulations and were free to make it as loud as possible.
And to think some people still complain about the GT using a V6 instead of a V8…
