At the recent unveiling of the 2020 Genesis GV80, the South Korean car manufacturer teased its future line-up, consisting of the GV80, the forthcoming GV70 crossover, the redesigned G80, a facelifted G70, as well as the Essentia and Mint, so far only revealed as concepts. One potential new vehicle missing from this teaser was a GV80 Coupe.
For what it’s worth, the luxury brand of Hyundai hasn’t said it will introduce a slightly sleeker version of its flagship SUV but considering the proliferation of SUV ‘Coupes’ on the market, we wouldn’t be one bit surprised if such a vehicle saw the light of day at a later stage. These renderings from Aksyonov Nikita attempt to imagine what such a model could look like.

The GV80 Coupe presented here is painted in a shade of blue and features a front end much like the standard model. In an effort to give the vehicle a sportier appearance, its roofline has been altered and lowered while a steeply raked rear window is also present. One of the more subtle changes visible is a BMW-esque Hofmeister kink on the rear side windows as opposed to the more angular design of the existing GV80.
We’ve never been big fans of the whole SUV Coupe scene and while some are better than others, like the BMW X6, we don’t think a (or at the very least, this specific) sloping roofline suits the character and style of the GV80 very well. Overall, we find this effort too ‘bubbly’, too roundish and overall, too similar looking to something like the BMW X4 for our tastes.
Nevertheless, if Genesis ever decides to build such a vehicle, we’d imagine they’d go for something with more angular lines that might better match the styling of the regular model.
