What are the odds of finding a near delivery-mileage 1996 Chevy Impala SS in brand new condition, just waiting for you to give its 5.7-liter V8 the first proper drive?
Pretty slim, we’d say, but this is your lucky day if good ol’ American muscle sedans are your thing. That’s because we found on eBay a 1996 Impala SS with only 237 miles (381 km) on the odometer.
How’s that even possible? Well, the seller claims the car was stored in a fully insulated pole barn with concrete floor, immediately after being purchased new. After being bought from the original owner, the Impala SS was “extensively reconditioned from top to bottom using mostly OEM GM and Delco parts and fluids.”

The muscle sedan was mechanically refurbished in such a way that ensured it remained stock and as original as possible. For example, the paint has minor defects caused by the fact that the Impala was stored without a car cover. Those can be easily corrected, but the seller left that decision up to the future owner.
As the photos can attest, the interior is unused and in perfect condition – it even retains the delivery plastic covering the front carpet.
The mechanical work done to the car included a complete oil and filter change, new fuel injectors, alternator, brake discs, stabilizer bar control links and fuel tank, as well as fresh tires. Mind you, the car is supplied with the original OEM tires that show no tread wear.
And so we arrive at the asking price, which is $25,000. That’s about $6,000 less than a brand new 2020 Chevrolet Impala LT which only comes with a 305 HP 3.6-liter V6 driving the front wheels. The 1996 Impala SS, on the other hand, is a rear-wheel drive sleeper sedan that looks pretty much like any other Chevy Caprice, which it essentially is. Unlike the Caprice, it’s powered by a Corvette C4-sourced 5.7-liter LT1 V8 delivering 260 HP and 330 lb-ft (447 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed auto. It’s not even a choice, is it?
Editor’s note: After posting the article, we noticed that the listing has been removed from ebay with the official explanation being that it was ended due to an error. For what it’s worth, we tried to contact the seller but have yet to receive a reply.
