We don’t know if you’re familiar with New York fashion label Aimé Leon Dore (ALD), but you will from now on.

That’s because ALD founder and creative director Teddy Santis worked with Porsche to restore his 911 Carrera of the 964 generation – with some spectacular results. Going by the full name of Aimé Leon Dore 964 Porsche Carrera 4, the unique 911 took months of primary design research, including Santis’ visits to the Porsche Museum and 911 assembly line in Stuttgart.

The pièce de résistance of the restoration is a fully custom interior that features Schott sunflower leather and Loro Piana houndstooth. Those are the same materials highlighted in Aimé Leon Dore’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection.

The cabin makeover continues with rich top-grain leather wrapping the dashboard, steering wheel and door panels, while the reverse suede of the same leather covers the headliner and sunroof.

Particular attention was given to the bespoke seats which have been restored at Recaro’s workshop in Kirchheim, Germany. Rounding out the interior changes is the Schott leather trunk with Loro Piana accents, complete with a care bag inspired by designs from the Porsche Classic product archive.

The exterior seems pretty stock at first sight, but it’s not. For starters, it’s painted in the same shade of white as the storefront of the ALD flagship store located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The rear ducktail pays homage to the classic design of the Carrera RS 2.7, while the Cup 2 wheels are a not to 1990s Porsches.

There’s also a graphic Pegasus detail designed specifically for this project. Located above the front wheels, it references logos from historic Porsche race cars. Finally, the custom-designed rear grille badge is inspired by memorabilia created and collected by fans from the Porsche clubs.

“Working together with Porsche on this project has been a dream come true. It has been a deeply humbling experience to be entrusted with a project of such importance to the Porsche community and to work together on a design that has been so instrumental in shaping my own outlook and aspirations,” said Teddy Santis.

“Teddy Santis is as much a Porsche fan as we are, and we are delighted to see his inspiration and creativity applied to the 911. His interpretation is visually stunning and also shows unique features for a 964 – it’s a true one-of-a kind,” added Kjell Gruner, Vice President Marketing at Porsche AG.

Needless to say, the technical restoration and reassembly of the unique 964 were completed using period-correct original Porsche parts, with support from Porsche Classic.
