Although he may not appear as a car guy, Bill Gates has owned some impressive exotics over the years, including a number of Porsches and Lamborghinis. More recently, he went electric by buying a Porsche Taycan.
Speaking to YouTuber Marques Brownlee, the Microsoft co-founder gave praise to Tesla for making electric cars popular, even though he ended up getting Porsche’s first dedicated EV. “Tesla, if you had to name one company that’s helped drive that, it’s them,” said Gates. “I just got a Porsche, a Taycan which is an electric car and I have to say it’s a premium-priced car, but it is very, very cool,” Gates added. “That’s my first electric car, and I’m enjoying it a lot.”
Asked if there’s anything missing from the EV experience, Gates said that compared to traditional ICE models right now, you get a lower driving range and much longer re-charging times versus refilling your car with gas.

The 64-year old billionaire and philanthropist refrained from making other car-related comments in the interview, so we don’t know which trim he chose. Still, since money is definitely the least of Gates’ problems, we suspect he selected the top-of-the-line Taycan Turbo S, which starts at $185,000 in the United States.
With up to 750 HP (761 PS / 560 kW) and 774 lb-ft (1,049 Nm) of torque available on Overboost, it needs as little as 2.6 seconds to sprint from nought to 60 mph (0-96 km/h), and will keep accelerating up to 161 mph (259 km/h).
The regular Taycan Turbo will set you back at least $150,900 and boasts 670 HP (680 PS / 500 kW) and 626 lb-ft (849 Nm) on Overboost. The 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes 3.2 seconds and top speed is identical to its sportier sibling.
Should you want to keep it lighter on the finances, then the Taycan 4S is the one to go for. At $103,800, it’s $47,100 and $81,200 more affordable than the Turbo and Turbo S, respectively, and in spite of the entry-level positioning, it’s still ridiculously quick. It offers up to 522 HP (530 PS / 389 kW) and 563 HP (571 PS / 420 kW) with the optional Performance Battery Plus package, hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and maxes out at 155 mph (250 km/h).
Bill Gates discussed about the climate change, coronavirus, vaccines, Tesla Motors and other topics in the aforementioned interview, which is shared down below.
