Maserati is preparing to announce the name of its new “super sports car” at 8:20 PM CET / 2:20 PM EST today.
Late last year, the Italian car manufacturer shocked many when it published a series of official ‘spy shots’ of a new mid-engined sports car it was testing near its Italian headquarters. Evidently, Maserati wanted to beat spy photographers to the punch with the release of these photos and help control the narrative surrounding the vehicle.

To this day, some three months after photos of the car were first published, details about the car remain limited. According to some reports, the prototype features a turbocharged V8 engine. It is also understood that the prototype uses the carbon fiber tub of the Alfa Romeo 4C but features a longer wheelbase and wider tracks. Curiously, other reports claim the car uses a Maserati-built V6 engine.
Nevertheless, it is pretty obvious that Maserati wants to keep details about the vehicle as secretive as possible. Some speculate it could be called the ‘Alfieri’ although it is understood that name could be instead used for a different electrified sports car from the company, one expected to adopt a front-engined layout like the original Alfieri concept from back in 2014.
Fortunately, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to learn everything there is to know about the new super sports car as it is scheduled to make its premiere in May. In the meantime, we will soon learn about its name and (hopefully) receive some additional details about it.
