Australian pricing for the 2020 BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition models has been announced. Neither are what anyone would call cheap.
Those looking to purchase an X5 M Competition will need to fork out AU$209,900 (US$138,838) while prices for the X6 M Competition start at AU$213,900 (US$141,484). Neither of these two figures includes on-road costs. For comparison, U.S. prices start at $114,100 for the X5 M Competition and from $117,600 for its coupe-ish sibling.

Interestingly, shoppers Down Under will not be offered the non-Competition branded X5 M and X6 M models, not that we expect local buyers to be worried about that.
Powering both models is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with a cool 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission sending power through an Active M Differential to all four wheels. Both models can rocket to 62 mph (100 km/h) in as little as 3.8 seconds and ordinarily, max out at 155 mph (250 km/h). Should customers want a little extra speed, they can opt for the M Driver’s Package that increases top speed to 180 mph (290 km/h).
For SUVs as big as the X5 M and X6 M Competition, it’s only fitting that they brake just as well as they accelerate. That’s exactly what they do thanks to six-piston calipers at the front clamping down on 15.5-inch (395 mm discs) while at the rear there are single-piston calipers and 15-inch (380 mm) discs.
