Crossovers are the hottest thing right now in the automotive industry but this 1978 Volkswagen Beetle is not the type of crossover you’re familiar with.

You see, the owner of this bug decided it wasn’t cute enough when it left the Wolfsburg factory so they decided it needed a makeover. After completely covering it in faux fur inside and out, the Beetle received the affectionate nickname of ‘Furbie’ – a proper name for a crossover between a car and a dog.

On sale on AutoTrader for £4,900 (approximately $6,350), Furbie is described by its owner as a “real head turner” that gets attention wherever it goes and is “guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.”

We can’t really argue with that, though we imagine the buyer will need to set money aside for new maintenance operations such as visits to the veterinarian, combing and training. Let’s not forget buying dog food, while a checkup for fleas could be a good idea too.

Joking aside, one has to wonder why would anyone sell their furry friend? Well, we learn from the seller that he or she “just don’t get a chance to enjoy as much as I would like to.”

Besides keeping passengers warm in winter, Furbie is also friendly with the wallet: since it’s an historic vehicle, it’s tax and MOT exempt. Oh, and if you wondered what’s with that key at the back, it actually spins like a wind up toy at the push of a switch. We guess this is a crossover between a toy dog and a car, after all.
