European 2020 Car Of The Year: Peugeot 208 Beats Tesla Model 3 And Porsche Taycan

The Peugeot 208 won the European Car Of The Year award for 2020 in a ceremony held at the now canceled Geneva Motor Show.

The French small hatchback was crowned Europe’s Car of The Year after gathering 281 points by the jury, which includes 60 journalists from 23 European countries.

The Peugeot 208, which is available in petrol, diesel and pure electric variants, came on top of models like the Tesla Model 3 (242 points), the Porsche Taycan (222 points), the Renault Clio (211 points), the Ford Puma (209 points), the Toyota Corolla (152 points) and the BMW 1 Series (133 points).

This is the sixth time Peugeot has won the prestigious Car of The Year award, following the 504 in 1969, the 405 in 1988, the 307 in 2002, the 308 in 2014 and the 3008 in 2017.

Since its market launch in Europe, the new Peugeot 208 has already attracted 110,000 orders, with the pure electric e-208 variant holding a solid 15 percent of the mix. The new Peugeot 208 is also the top-selling model in its home market in France.

The new Peugeot 208 managed to distinguish itself by not only the available powertrains but by its design as well, which so far was universally praised. The 208’s innovative i-Cockpit interior is also a major talking point, featuring a 3D digital instrument cluster, a compact steering wheel and an advanced head-up display.
