We happen to think the BMW M8 Competition is one of the best looking cars on the market but Chris Harris isn’t quite so fond of it.

Shortly after Harris drove the car during the final episode of Top Gear’s 28th season, Jack Rix had the opportunity to speak to him about the GT. Asked directly if the M8 Competition does it for him, Harris responds with a simple “No.”

According to the Top Gear host and respected British journalist, the M8 Competition is really just the same car as the BMW M5 Competition with less space. Consequently, he’d much rather have the “stealthy” M5 that offers all the same performance but with more restrained looks all while offering far more practicality.

Harris also isn’t impressed with the pricing of the M8 Competition. He says the example featured carries a sticker price of £165,000 ($211,000) which he believes is an absurd amount of money for a BMW. Admittedly, however, the M8 Competition does actually start at £123,435 ($158,241) in the UK so not all are quite as expensive as the one Harris drove. For the record, the M5 Competition starts from a much lower £98,100 (equal to $128,000 at today’s rates).

As for the styling, the presenter doesn’t think the M8 has the type of road presence that an M car should. He believes it needs a more aggressive personality on the road, something that could be achieved with wider arches and a more “butch” stance.

What are your thoughts on the M8? Do you agree with Chris Harris?
