Mercedes has introduced the facelifted Vito and eVito.
Originally scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the updated vans are instantly recognizable as the biggest exterior change is a lightly modified grille.
More significant updates occur in the cabin as the Vitos can be equipped with new Audio 30 and Audio 40 infotainment systems. Both feature a 7-inch touchscreen display as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Elsewhere, there’s revised upholstery and new turbine-style air vents. The optional Chrome Package also adds chrome air vents surrounds as well as piano black trim.
Last but not least, panel vans can be equipped with a newly optional lightweight load floor. It’s a “hard-wearing” surface made of plastic and Mercedes says it increases payload capacity by up to 33 lbs (15 kg).
On the safety front, there’s a new Active Brake Assist system which can automatically brake the van if a potential collision is detected and the driver fails to respond. The model can also be equipped with a Distronic adaptive cruise control system for the first time.
There’s also a digital rearview mirror with a high-resolution LCD display. It provides an unobstructed view behind the van and can be changed from digital to analogue at the flip of a switch.
Under the hood, there are 1.7- and 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines from the OM 622 and OM 654 families. They are available in multiple outputs including 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque, 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 243 lb-ft (330 Nm) of torque, 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque as well as 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 324 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque.
Customers seeking more performance can opt for the Vito 124 CDI which has 236 hp (176 kW / 239 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. While it’s no sports car, the van can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
The entry-level engines are paired to a six-speed manual transmission, while higher end variants adopt a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is also available.
Drivers looking to go green can opt for the eVito Tourer which features a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that powers the front wheels. The motor produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and allows the van to hit a top speed of up to 99 mph (160 km/h). The eVito has a range of up to 262 miles (421 km) and it can be charged from 10-80% in less than 45 minutes using a 110 kW rapid charger.
Speaking of performance, the Vitos can be equipped with a newly available Airmatic air suspension. It promises to increase ride comfort and has the ability to raise the vehicle by 1.4 inches (35 mm) or lower it by 0.4 inches (10 mm).
The 2020 Vito will go up for order on April 1st and German pricing starts at €22,598.10 excluding a 19 % VAT. The eVito Tourer will follow this summer, but there’s no word on pricing.
