A handful of hot Volkswagen models were recently spied in the parking lot of a St. Moritz hotel, including numerous Mk8 Golf R prototypes and a tester for the long-awaited Arteon R.

The following clip, filmed by YouTuber TheTFJJ, initially showcases a Mk8 VW Golf GTI prototype before another stealthy Golf rolls into the parking lot. This particular test mule features the bodywork of the Mk7 model, but the interior and quad tailpipes reveal the car’s true identity.

Later in the video, another Mk8 VW Golf R prototype is spotted. This time, however, the test vehicle features the bodywork of the latest-generation Golf and looks more like the production-spec model. The prototype also sports a new front fascia with an enlarged grille and air intakes similar to the new GTI. Curiously, the car also sports the blue front grille accent you’d ordinarily expect to find on a Golf GTE not an R model.

Also featured briefly in the clip is what looks to be a prototype for the forthcoming VW Arteon R. This vehicle has been talked about for a long time and has been previously spied during testing. It’s worth pointing out that the prototype in question does feature an R-Line badge on the front grille so it remains to be seen if it’s actually a true Arteon R tester.

Either way, opinions are split regarding the Arteon R’s powertrain. While some sources claim it will feature the marque’s new 3.0-liter VR6 twin-turbocharged engine with roughly 400 hp, others bet on the 2.0-liter turbo-four which in the upcoming Golf R will deliver around 333 PS (329 HP).

Regardless of the engine VW will choose, expect an all-wheel drive system and a DSG transmission to come as standard.
