The market response to the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will make or break the first-ever mid-engined Vette and decide if GM will continue with the mid-ship configuration for the next-generation model.
Obviously, it’s too early to talk about that as the C8 Corvette has just begun reaching dealerships. But what if Chevrolet decided to build a mid-engine Camaro as a more affordable alternative to the Corvette Stingray?
Well, you need to look no further than this rendering that’s doing the rounds on social media these days. Created by Gabe Design to kill time before his 2020 Corvette gets delivered, this mid-engine Camaro sports a front end clearly influenced by the current-generation model, albeit the pre-facelift version.

Everything else is completely different, though, starting with the different proportions typical for a mid-engine sports car. Gone is the long hood of the Camaro, replaced by a much shorter and more inclined iteration that now plays the part of a frunk lid – a muscular one at that.
The glasshouse seems even smaller than on the current Camaro and this contributes to a more aggressive appearance, as do the front splitter and the generous side air intakes carved in the doors and rear fenders. Highlights also include the sharp side skirts, massive wheels and bulged rear haunches.
We wish the author created a second CGI picturing the rear end of this hypothetical mid-engine Camaro but since it doesn’t exist, we’re gonna have to use our imagination. So what do you think, would a mid-engine Camaro tickle your fancy?
