An impatient garbage truck driver in Dordrecht, Netherlands, almost triggered a potentially fatal crash with a train during the week.
AD reports that the incident occurred just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning at a crossing at Halmaheira Square.
Footage from the scene shows that the driver of the green garbage truck started to accelerate through the train crossing shortly after the crossing’s lights started flashing. It appears as though the driver thought he would be able to slot behind a van in traffic and avoid the rear of the truck sticking out into the train tracks. They were wrong.

Shortly after crossing, the boom gates close and before long, the train starts to approach. Clearly aware that the truck was still sticking out, the driver inches forward as the train speeds towards them.
Fortunately, the truck driver was able to get far enough forward to avoid being T-boned by the train. However, it is reported that the train did make contact with the rear of the truck but made off with nothing more serious than a few scratches.
We’ve all seen videos of cars crossing into the path of trains and being absolutely destroyed. If this garbage truck was left stranded in the tracks, the driver of it and the driver of the train could have been seriously injured or killed. Things could have escalated further if the collision triggered the train to derail.
