Following the successful debut of virtual NASCAR racing, Porsche has followed suit with the announcement of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition.
The real-life Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is scheduled to kick-off in May but in the meantime, drivers and teams will compete in the virtual world. This is the German marque’s second foray into the world of sim racing with the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup now entering its second season.

Whereas the Esports Supercup is aimed at sim racers who want to become real-life race car drivers, the Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition will only feature teams and drivers, as well as invited guest drivers, that compete in the actual Supercup race series. Additionally, the vehicles run by Supercup teams in the virtual series will sport the same liveries as they do on real circuits. There will be a maximum grid of 40 drivers.
“The current situation has put a real damper on my life as a racing driver. Instead of real racing, I spend a lot of time on the simulator,” Porsche Junior Ayhancan Guven said. “The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition is a great opportunity to fill the gap. I can hardly wait until the first race.”
The virtual series will commence with a test day on March 29 with the first two races being held on April 4 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Races 3 and 4 will be held at Silverstone, races 5 and 6 will take place at Spa-Francorchamps, and the final two races of the series will run at Monza on May 16.
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition uses the iRacing simulation portal and all events will be live-streamed online.
