The Ferrari F8 Tributo may share many of its parts with the 488 Pista but as Doug DeMuro reveals in his review of the latest-generation mid-engined V8 supercar from Ferrari, the F8 is still a special thing in its own right.

Powering the car is a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 outputting no less than 710 hp at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque from 3,250 rpm, identical figures to the 488 Pista. This is because the engine of the F8 is virtually identical to that of the Pista.

That could be considered as a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your perspective. When Ferrari shifted from the 458 Italia to the 488 GTB, it developed an all-new 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine but for the F8, no such engine change was made.

This leads on to one of the complaints DeMuro has about the F8 Tributo, commenting that it simply doesn’t feel all that much different than the 488 that it replaced. This doesn’t come as a much of a surprise giving the carryover parts found in the F8 but it would have been nice if Ferrari completely revamped the model. Admittedly, it did have a number of other cars in the works when developing the F8, including the SF90 Stradale, 812 Superfast, and its forthcoming SUV.

Ultimately, DeMuro seems won over by the car, saying it is absolutely one of the very finest sports cars currently on the market. With the arrival of the hardcore McLaren 765LT, however, the F8 had better watch its back.
