A modified BMW i8 has been seized by police in Germany for street racing.

The plug-in hybrid sports car was confiscated by police in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, approximately six months after the owner of the car published footage of a street race on Facebook. The video showed the BMW exceeding 200 km/h (124 mph) on a road with a 100 km/h (62 mph) speed limit.

In a press statement, local police say they caught wind of the video in February and began investigating the matter. Before long, they showed up at the 40-year-old owner’s house and seized the car.

To make matters worse, police soon realized that a number of illegal modifications had been made to the BMW i8, including the fitment of aftermarket air suspension and flared wheel arches. Authorities say that it took them an hour to load the sports car onto a truck because of how low it was to the ground.

Police believe that the car has been outfitted with more than €160,000 ($177,920) worth of modifications, making the i8 worth roughly €350,000 ($389,200). In all likelihood, those estimates are exorbitant but, regardless, we’re sure the owner is now regretting doing double the speed limit in the car and boasting about it on social media.

In addition to having the car seized, the owner’s license has also been revoked for an unspecified period.
