With a 6.2-liter V8 engine delivering 495 hp and a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of less than 3 seconds, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is no slouch. Despite this, Hennessey Performance is hard at working testing and perfecting a twin-turbo package it has developed for the mid-engined sports car.

It took the Texas tuner just a handful of days after taking delivery of its C8 Corvette before it had fitted a pair of turbochargers and got the car running. Last week, Hennessey put its Corvette onto the dyno with it delivering a cool 643 hp and 570 lb-ft (773 Nm) of torque through the rear wheels.

How does that added grunt alter the driving experience on the track and on the road? John Hennessey is here to answer that question.

The man behind the tuning company jumped behind the wheel of the car and took it for a quick spin around a small racetrack and on the road. The car looks and sounds very fast indeed. In one high-acceleration run, the car sprints from 30 mph (48 km/h) to over 70 mph (112 km/h) in a touch over three seconds. In the process, the turbochargers add an extra element to the epic soundtrack produced by the V8 and the dual-clutch eight-speed transmission kicks through the gears with ease.

Tuning companies have yet to crack into the ECU of the C8 Corvette meaning there is still a lot of work to do before the upgrade package is complete. Towards the end of the video, Hennessey says that with a built motor, an ECU tune, and a little more boost, the car should be able to easily produce 1000 hp on pump gas.
